Beginning

I started this blog because I missed writing, and because my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer and I didn’t know what else to do. The concept – that life throws you tomatoes and then you deal with them – stems from the fact that I don’t like tomatoes; thus, having them thrown at me is somewhat unappealing. Since then, it has bounced from dealing with his cancer and my feelings about it, to political rants about the state we’re in in the USA, to facts of my life, to short stories I dream up.

A Bit About Me

I was a Computer Science and English double major at a school in Connecticut. My parents are in Vermont. I work as a proposal writer for a small Government contractor, and spend much of my day researching technologies, IT concepts, and piecing these things together into a sales document (on the range of 10-100 pages) to convince agencies to hire our company. Cool fact: I briefly supported NASA for a month on a new contract. Cool non-work fact: I’m writing a novel, which I hope to publish in early 2014.

I Try to Live By:

If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door. – Milton Berle

Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.
There is no means of testing which decision is better, because there is no basis for comparison. We live everything as it comes, without warning, like an actor going on cold.
– Milan Kundera, “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”

When all of your tears dry, let your troubles roll by

Live a life less ordinary
Live a life extraordinary with me…
The night you came into my life
Well it took the bones of me, took the bones of me

You blew away my storm and strife
And shook the bones of me, shook the bones of me

My name is Hope, Luck just ran out
He said he’d return, without a doubt (ah, but don’t you believe him!)
Oh, I happen to have a message from Love
She told me she knows what you’ve been dreaming of
My name is Hope, this is my song, when things go wrong
– Carbon Leaf, various songs

I just found your blog. I’ve wanted to hike the AP forever and with slowing down, mostly from the economy, next year is my target. I hope all is well with your Dad, I haven’t read any of your archive posts, just your AP new adventure and your about page. I’ve never heard that Quote from Milton Berle, I will start using it mostly on my kids and grandkids. I like your attitude and wish you success on your new adventure. “Life is a trip, hang on for the ride” Ed.
